[Hip-Hop/Rap:] [Real Wavy] Miles Meraki – My Phone (w/Kasey Jones)

[Hip-Hop/Rap:]
Miles Meraki – My Phone (w/Kasey Jones)

Over a spacey-epic beat, the hard hitting “My Phone” from Miles Meraki is an energy-producing, yet mellow song strangely appropriate for the turn-up and the turn-down. The ghastly sounding synths coupled with the powerful, bumping bass create a shoulder and head bouncing under-the-radar trap-hit. Featuring backup from rapper Kasey Jones the two channel vibes of mainstream rappers, without all the mainstream cheesiness. Definitely worth checking out.

[EDM & Hip-Hop] [Trap EDM/Rap:] Mike Fresh & Quavo – Soul Food (Hydrabadd Remix) // [Unsigned Hype] [Underground Rap:] RealWillHill – Fix You Need (feat. Zip K & Seiko)

[EDM Origins]
Mike Fresh & Quavo – Soul Food (Hydrabadd Remix)

Our EDM Origins picks for today highlight some groundbreaking songs in the genres of trap, future bass and house that really pioneered around 2012 and more thoroughly permeated the scene by 2015.

Georgia producers and DJ duo, Hydrabadd’s remix of Mike Fresh and Quavo (of Migos fame)’s “Soul Food” is a trap-heavy, head banging mix full of futuristic synths and raw street rap. The booming, unrelenting bass and dance-ready BPM of the remix make for quite the club banger and a certainly respectable track on its own.

If anything, trap EDM has been a movement for years now, but its fusion with future house music really began to soar after smash disc-jockey, DJ Snake released “Turn Down for What” and his remix of AlunaGeorge, “You Know You Like It (DJ Snake Remix)” which became heavy hits in the music world. Other artists credited with pioneering and furthering the Future House movement include TchamiRustie, Minnesota, Village, Kaytranada, and marshmello among many others.

[Throwbacks] [Conscious, Underground Hip-Hop:] Charles Hamilton – Writing in the Sky // [Unsigned Hype] I-An-I – My Grind (feat. Willow Smith) & chad. (Purple Reign)

Throwback Post:

Charles Hamilton – Writing in the Sky [Soulful Sample]

Charles Hamilton’s timeless “Writing in the Sky” was a bonus track off of his early mixtape, The Pink Lavalamp. Sampling the timeless R&B/Soul hit by The Stylists “Betcha by Golly, Wow” the song is a very calming and inspiring anthem with Charles spilling his heart out over the track. The echoing soul-filled vocals in the background sample further contribute to the chill, spacey ambiance set by the song.

Hamilton has largely been quiet in terms of releases since his short run from around 2007 to 2010. He has recently begun to re-enter into the industry, however. Hamilton was featured on the soundtrack for the break-out music-industry drama and TV-show, Empire. He raps alongside songwriter group, The Invisible Men on “New York Raining”.

[Indie Underground Hip-Hop | Conscious Rap:]

I-An-I – My Grind (feat. Willow Smith)

I-An-I is a little known hip-hop group introduced to me by my brother, that released a stunningly “real hip-hop” mixtape titled, Free Love around 2010. Released through I-An-I’s music group Purple Reign, the EP is chock full of “real hip-hop” beats, smart, conscious lyrics and soulful samples. In the underground banger “My Grind” I-An-I samples Will Smith‘s daughter and pop music songstress, Willow Smith. With a very catchy hook and some quite emotional heartfelt lyrics, “My Grind” is not a song to be missed by rap enthusiasts.

“Free Love” is not Purple Reign’s only “fye” extended play, member of the group, chad. (born Chad Charles) released a similarly scorching hot, authentic underground rap album, Conquering Lions with some amazingly clever raps and one-of-a-kind beats you won’t hear anywhere else. Here are a few standout tracks from that mixtape, which can be found on DatPiff, Bandcamp and ReverbNation.

[Street Rap / 1738] Fetty Wap – Make It

Featured on Up Next “Make It,” the rapper behind the world famous “Trap Queen” drops arguably, the best track on the whole tape. The unique rhythm and futuristic-sounding beat make for a very catchy track. This song, Fetty Wap goes out to his boys who he came up with, where he turns his promise to “come up” with them into an anthem.

Notable lyrics:

I promised all my n*ggas we gon’ make it
4th and inches, we ain’t scared — we gon’ take it!
Watch the look on all these n*ggas faces
Comin’ thru in the foreign like we racin’
