[Deep House/Punk:] ATHRS – Shed Your Skin

Simply, shed your skin and
howl at the moon, with me…

ATHRS, the EDM punk rocker comes through with a quite deeper and more depth diving meld of deep house music and pop-punk vocals in “Shed Your Skin.”

The beat breaks down and builds up around deep house synths and an atmospheric soundscape prompting powerful emotions of breaking free and letting go (of troubles, the past, etc.). Do yourself a favor and check out this very unique track.

You can check out a feature I did on ATHRS and his response to an interview I did with him after his performance at Imagine 2018 on his experience at the fest.

[Future House/Trap:] Khalid & Normani – Love Lies (Bro Justin Remix)

[Future House/Trap:] Khalid & Normani – Love Lies (Bro Justin Remix)

Being the musichead that I am, whenever I hear a song that sounds epic, I have to hunt it down. Youtube, knowing that I attend festivals, placed an ad for Breakaway Music Festival before a video I watched, and although I am too broke to go to another fest so quickly, I was transfixed by the song playing and the visuals of what looks like a pretty enjoyable festival not too far from me. Maybe if a miracle happens I’ll find myself there, who knows.

Anyway, enough rambling, Bro Justin’s remix of Khalid and Normani’s “Love Lies” has an uplifting vibe and sound, perfect for festivals, and for the summer season that has sadly drawn to a close. That doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy it and rock out whenever the feeling hits you though!

Bro Justin is a Filipino electronic music artist who has several remixes that you can check out on his Soundcloud.

[Commercials with Cool Music:] [Bass/Electronic:] Nora Khalif – My Favorite Things (Urban Noize Edit)

[Commercial with Cool Music:] My Favorite Things (Urban Noize Edit) – Nora Khalif

Commercials have increasingly turned to EDM to be featured in their adverts. Car companies have probably been sampling the electronic genre’s gems for quite some time, since the rise of dubstep almost a decade ago. Volvo stepped up and featured a remix of a traditional song (along the lines of Toyota’s Bippity Boppity Boo EDM Remix).

In a rare twist however, a full version of the remix was also released and uploaded to Youtube. Often when EDM is used in commercials, the song will be a snippet produced only for the commercial and a full version is never released. Volvo made a smart move featuring Urban Noize’s remix of the song which also has a full version. Enjoy it above!

[Chill House/Future Ambient:] Louis the Child – Better Not (feat. Wafia)

Louis the Child’s “Better Not” offers up futuristic synths alongside tropical, island beats.

[Downtempo Dance House:] Better Not (feat. Wafia) – Louis the Child.

Just in time for the summer is a cut with plenty of cool, tropical vibes. With a repeating reggae tin drum in the backbeat helping to create the dreamy, calm atmosphere of “Better Not” Wafia‘s vocals fit right in.

Louis the Child creates an interesting flow with this one, which initially resembles a contemporary pop song.

Though that may be true, by the first hook the track intrigues as the synths pick up. Then by the first “drop” you’ll find yourself humming and swaying to the beat and echoing the chorus of “You better not…” This is a great song for the season and not to be missed.

[Dance/Tech-House:] Mark Knight – We Get High From The Music (feat. Mr. V)

[Tech House/Groove House:]

Mark Knight – We Get High from the Music

Check out this groovy Tech-House cut, embodying the core elements of the house genre.

A steady, funky beat. House synths and effects alongside driving vocals produces a classic hit, and great transition track for the dancefloor into some harder house or something light. Check it out above.

[Chill/House:] NVDES – Louì

NVDES are back at it again with a chill house cut 🎧

[Chill House/Ambient/Big Room:] NVDES – Louí

Check out this chill house cut from NVDES. The group has been gaining popularity after their song “D.Y.T. (Do Your Thing)” appeared in an Apple commercial for different styles of camera lighting.

Like “Do Your Thing,” “Louí” has a very chill vibe, even more so than the former. Lush house vibes and a calm, but steady beat are refreshingly reassuring for the house genre as a whole.

[Bass/Future House:] Tchami – World To Me (feat. Luke James) [Cazztek Remix]

Cazztek delivers a bass thumping, yet ethereal big room “feel” take on Tchami’s “World to Me”

Bass/Future House:

Tchami – World to Me (feat. Luke James) [Cazztek Remix]

Tchami’s “World to Me (feat. Luke James)” was one of the songs hot enough off his album to warrant its own EP. I’ve covered the Rootkit Remix & the Dillon Nathaniel Remix but there’s another flip just as epic that deserves not to be overlooked.

Cazztek’s remix of the song takes it in an interesting direction. A fusion of bass house, dance house and Future House this remix blends all these elements for an uplifting, atmospheric remix with plenty of energy.

A catchy beat and vocal sample play over the opening hook, “Baby, you should know/that you mean the world to me” with trance synths into a bass filled future house drop. The drop alone, heavy enough to fill dancefloors, refreshingly devolves back into broken down layers at the second chorus/full hook.

Ending out with warped bass and synths and then the return of the distorted vocal sample results in a song so upbeat, so funky, so different it’ll turn just about any person’s head.

Check it out above as well as more remixes from Tchami’s “Confession” label YouTube page.
