[Deep House/Punk:] ATHRS – Shed Your Skin

Simply, shed your skin and
howl at the moon, with me…

ATHRS, the EDM punk rocker comes through with a quite deeper and more depth diving meld of deep house music and pop-punk vocals in “Shed Your Skin.”

The beat breaks down and builds up around deep house synths and an atmospheric soundscape prompting powerful emotions of breaking free and letting go (of troubles, the past, etc.). Do yourself a favor and check out this very unique track.

You can check out a feature I did on ATHRS and his response to an interview I did with him after his performance at Imagine 2018 on his experience at the fest.

[Future Dirty House:] Dua Lipa – New Rules (Shaun Dean Remix)

[DIRTY Future/Deep House:]

Dua Lipa – New Rules (Shaun Dean Remix)

So I’ve heard a couple remixes now of Dua Lipa’s “New Rules.” Most of the ones I heard before are a more chill, melodic house vibe. This remix is not that at all. Shaun Dean’s remix brings filthy, grimey bass vibes too strong to hear and sit still. While still managing to keep the soft silky vibes the original vocals bring, Dean flips this track upside down with dirty wobbly synths and bass rolls. Truly epic, don’t sleep on this!

[EDM Origins] [Deep House / Club Dance:] Marcus Schössow – Mr. White (Original Mix) [Remix] [Reuben De Ronde Remix] // [Chill Ambient Trance:] John O’Callaghan – Take It All Away (Marcus Schössow Nu Prog Remix)

[Deep House / Club EDM:] Marcus Schössow – Mr. White (Original Mix) [Remix] [Reuben De Ronde Remix Blend] from Trance the Ultimate Collection 2007

EDM Origins’ post today will feature the Swedish electronic producer and DJ, Marcus Schössow and two epic EDM tracks of his, the entrancing “Mr. White” and his epic ambient Nu Progressive remix of John O’Callaghan’s “Take It Away” Both tracks exemplify the core values and foundations of EDM. “Mr. White” and it’s many remixes make successful blends of the original’s use of “female robot” vocals (a la Knife Party), the rhythmic toy or video game synth chords (a la Eric Prydz) and that infectious backbeat present in all today’s club bangers, the 2007 single was way ahead of its time. Two of the better cuts of the song are the “Original mix” and the version of the song that was mixed and included in Trance: The Ultimate Collection 2007.

*epic [Chill Ambient Trance] John O’Callagan – Take It Away (Marcus Schössow’s Nu Prog. Remix)

“Take It Away” is a much more trance-house inspired tune, but just as epic and golden in the world of ambient music. Starting out as expected for a vocal trance tune, the song quickly sheds its cookie-cutter frame as layers of deep house sounds envelop the listener and heavenly, soothing vocals reminiscent of 4 Strings or Tiesto begin. As if this wasn’t good enough already, the song halfway through showcases haunting vocal effects during an a capella, and shortly after drops the unforgettable, addictive melody that caresses the aural senses until the end of the song.

Both tracks are worth checking out, simply for how good they are on their own but also as exemplary cuts embodying the core values of electronic dance music.

[FUTURE HOUSE / BASS]: Just A Kid – Swirling Skirt & [Deep House]: Deniz Milanov & Wanazama – Funky Sh!t

This absolutely floor-filling banger “Swirling Skirt” coming to us from EDM artist Just a Kid could certainly be a new club hit. The catchy driving rhythms to a very danceable beat result in a truly infectious house tune. Check it out above and find more a  slew of related free EDM tracks from a wide variety of artists in genres such as Chill Tropical, Deep House, Trap and more at EDM Lead.

[Creds to Mint Tunes]

We also have another house floor-filler in the deep house groove “Funky Sh!t” by Deniz Wanazama. A sick and grimey bassline drop segues into more dance like melodies before returning to the something that would immediately fit into any night clubs / venues “deep cuts” section of the night. Check out their Soundcloud for a free download.

[Trance/House Original DJ Mix] **NEW Release – iLLUMiИUS – Mood: Daze in a Trance

I present to you the first DJ mix I have released in awhile “Mood: Daze in a Trance.” For this mix I chose to use trance songs, a few house tracks and other dance songs. Although I have more of a penchant for trap music, grime, bass, deep house but I felt a need to get back to my roots in dance music (continued after the jump/tracklist) or at least do one throwback mix like this.

Tracklist:

[0:00] The Unknown – White Water
[2:50] I Found Peace (Matt Loopy RMX) – DJ Luka
[4:39] Dark Side of the Moon (Radio Cut) – Bastian & Ernesto
[6:37] Holding On to Nothing (Alex Gold 7″ Edit)[Alex Gold 7″ Edit] – Agnelli & Nelson
[10:05] Holding On (Above & Beyond Remix) – Ferry Corsten
[12:28] Must Be the Love (Dannic Remix) – Arty feat. Nadia Ali & BT

[21:47] To U (feat. AlunaGeorge) – Jack U

(cont.) I wanted to do a mix that highlighted some of the electronic dance music (EDM) I grew up on or at least reflect some of its sound and spirit. Artists like BT, DJ Tiesto, ATB, Röyksopp, Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, iiO (Nadia Ali), Scooter, Vincent De Moor, Junkie XL, Paul Oakenfold and Eiffel 65 to name a few, or rather a lot were some of the artists that ushered me into the world of dance music. These artists paved the way for the musicians that you now find on iTunes Top 20 Dance/EDM or whatever the top charts for that are today.

I remember this era (the late 90s and early-mid 00s) as a time when EDM was still very much a “European” thing and dance, house and trance music (while popular in some outlets like Detroit, San Francisco, Chicago) were still more like fringe movements. Today, a much smaller portion of electronic fans still follow trance releases (and some of the other off-shoots of EDM like eurotrance, eurodance, techno, happy hardcore, drum N’ bass etc.) as the mainstream mainly knows and wants to hear trap, house, dubstep, rap/rock/pop remixes or whatever is the hot sh*t advertisers and marketers are telling their brands to jump on NOW because rave culture is HOT! *rolls eyes (you ever notice/count all the dubstep and electronic in commercials, movies and TV shows in the past two years or so?)

Some of these artists I grew up on do still stay true to their original sound, but many have changed it while some expanded upon it (take DJ Tiesto for example). He has broken away from making the trance and “techno” that he first got famous from (“Traffic,” “Love Comes Again,” Ayla) and has transitioned more into dubstep, bass or more electronic style. Do not get me wrong I love all these genres and love the scape of dance music today; we needed EDM’s history to go down like this for us to get to the point where we are now. Where the US is now a major producer of dance music and, while we didn’t create dubstep (that was our neighbors “across the pond”), we definitely had a big hand in its growth, as an abundance of American DJs began spinning and creating it around 2009-2013, resulting in rarely ever a shortage of “generic” clubs playing the most played out of these songs to attract people wanting to “rave” the night away.

[2015 DEEP HOUSE:] Shawn Mendes – Never Be Alone (Rex Buchanan X Invoker Remix)

Credits to Et Musique Pour Tous for this deep house cut of Shawn Mendes‘ “Never Be Alone” coming to us from DJs Invoker and Rex Buchanan. The whistling melody throughout makes for a smooth, chill song with a sort of “cowboy riding off into the sunset” sound mixed with an absolutely groovy baseline. Enjoy.
