[Hip-Hop Rap / ATL Rap:]

Chedda & Sy Ari team-up with help from Zaytoven
Chedda Da Connect & Sy Ari Da Kid’s “Lost Count” Produced by Zaytoven

By now you’ve no doubt heard one of the latest nationwide meme crazes “Flicka Da Wrist” by Chedda Da Connect. The unsung underground single sprung into popularity following several viral videos and top vine lists of people showing their own takes and methods of ‘flicking their wrists”.

Chedda Da Connect (Houston born), doesn’t just make meme music. His mixtape, Chedda World showcases his rapping talents over trappy, street-style beats with a bevvy of feature artists from his hometown, as well as Atlanta.

Notably, he collabs with up-and-coming Atlanta rapper, Sy Ari Da Kid on the tape. The two team up on “Lost Count” ; a ridin’ in the whip trappin’, but not in complete turn-up mode track one would sit back and ride low to, or procede to count yo ‘hunnits to. Chedda World also receives back-up from rappers the likes of fellow Vine rapperT-Wayne, Kirko Bangz and Rizzo.

[EDM Origins] [Deep House / Club Dance:] Marcus Schössow – Mr. White (Original Mix) [Remix] [Reuben De Ronde Remix] // [Chill Ambient Trance:] John O’Callaghan – Take It All Away (Marcus Schössow Nu Prog Remix)

[Deep House / Club EDM:] Marcus Schössow – Mr. White (Original Mix) [Remix] [Reuben De Ronde Remix Blend] from Trance the Ultimate Collection 2007

EDM Origins’ post today will feature the Swedish electronic producer and DJ, Marcus Schössow and two epic EDM tracks of his, the entrancing “Mr. White” and his epic ambient Nu Progressive remix of John O’Callaghan’s “Take It Away” Both tracks exemplify the core values and foundations of EDM. “Mr. White” and it’s many remixes make successful blends of the original’s use of “female robot” vocals (a la Knife Party), the rhythmic toy or video game synth chords (a la Eric Prydz) and that infectious backbeat present in all today’s club bangers, the 2007 single was way ahead of its time. Two of the better cuts of the song are the “Original mix” and the version of the song that was mixed and included in Trance: The Ultimate Collection 2007.

*epic [Chill Ambient Trance] John O’Callagan – Take It Away (Marcus Schössow’s Nu Prog. Remix)

“Take It Away” is a much more trance-house inspired tune, but just as epic and golden in the world of ambient music. Starting out as expected for a vocal trance tune, the song quickly sheds its cookie-cutter frame as layers of deep house sounds envelop the listener and heavenly, soothing vocals reminiscent of 4 Strings or Tiesto begin. As if this wasn’t good enough already, the song halfway through showcases haunting vocal effects during an a capella, and shortly after drops the unforgettable, addictive melody that caresses the aural senses until the end of the song.

Both tracks are worth checking out, simply for how good they are on their own but also as exemplary cuts embodying the core values of electronic dance music.

[EDM Origins / Feature: MAJOR LAZER] Snoop Lion & Major Lazer – No Guns Allowed (ft. Cori B. & Drake) [Shelco Garcia, Teenwolf x Diplo RMX] // Video for Major Lazer’s “Lean On”

Today we’re featuring two great songs from the iconic EDM duo that is Major Lazer (currently Diplo and DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire). The first is a throwback remix of one of Lazer’s top sleeper hits, “No Guns Allowed” originally by Snoop Lion (Snoop Dogg). Featuring Snoop’s daughter Cori B. (Cori Broadus) and Drake, this remix turns the song into a dancefloor filler with a positive vibe and message with a feel of the islands and reggae music. Many have hailed the original song and it’s video as a positive message to youth and society on the harms and dangers of gunplay and firearm possession. Take a listen above and see what you think.

Next, Major Lazer‘s smash-hit single of the summer, Lean On gets a music video. Now while it is a rare find that a music video will come out and just BE EVERYTHING a fan, or the artist wanted to show/convey, the video for Lean On lands somewhere in-between “this is what I would’ve expected” and “okay, that’s cool”

Namely, I sort of expected an Indian/Desi/Bollywood/Slumdog Millionaire kind of tilt as the song undeniably has an Asian or “foreign” feel to it. Its depiction in the video comes across as both expected and unusual. This expectedness is simple, but apparent. When my mind is starting to meld into the video and take in the sights of Indian culture, I am quickly reminded I am watching an EDM music video each time I see MO singing or Diplo trying to dance. Don’t get me wrong they are both very talented but their presence in the video just feels a bit…out of place.

Nevertheless, I expected a bit more in the way of Indian dance routines, but I do like where they went with the video. You can tell everyone on the set had fun and that they probably had a chill time making it. Check it out above and let us know what you think!

[TRAP Hip-Hop/Street Rap] Trap Queen (Prod. by Tony Fadd) – Fetty Wap

Smash hit trap/rap anthem of the Winter is now blowing up across the US. With a very distinctive beat and a catchy hook and chorus, New Jersey rapper Fetty Wap has made a name for himself as he joins the rap scene. Part of the rap group 1738 RemyBoyz, he raps and traps in his video alongside CEO and fellow member Montana Buckz, explaining how he loves to trap, rap, get high and fly with his baby, or Trap Queen.

Although “Trap Queen”‘s first plays were a few months back on radio stations in Atlanta, like Streetz 94.5 FM and HOT 107.9 FM, the song is consistently getting more and more play. Released almost a year ago back in March 2014, the song has over 15 million plays on Fetty Wap’s Souncloud; the music video released in Aug. 2014 has 10 million views and counting (stats as of Late February 2015)

New Gucci Mane – Texas Margarita ft. Young Dolph & Dr. Phil

New Gucci Mane - Texas Margarita ft. Young Dolph & Dr. Phil

Gucci Mane dropped a new track yesterday (March 25th) titled “Texas Margarita.” Produced by London on Da Track the single is more “Gucci” type music, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. [credits: allhiphop.com for the story]

The chorus could have been a bit more inventive (guess what the lyrics to it are!), but regardless this track will definitely be “boomin'” and “bunkin'” for most folks especially when/if it gets airplay. Gucci’s last official mixtape was the “Trap Back 2” and his last studio album was “The State Vs. Radric Davis 2: The Caged Bird Sings.” In between those releases he has released several unofficial mixtapes which can be found at sites like Datpiff and LiveMixtapes.
