Updates

Sorry I haven’t posted in awhile folks, with Spring’s arrival I have been very busy as of late and dealing with several things simultaneously.

I have been a little out of the loop music wise for awhile since I took my haitus but I’m trying to get back into the swing of things. Please forgive me if some of my following posts are not recent releases, I will still be highlighting excellent eclectic music from the ATL and beyond.

On that note a lot has happened in music in the past month and several big names have held shows or will have shows in the Atlanta area. 94.5 Street’s Fest 2014 is this weekend at the Masquerade Music Park featuring several big names in the ATL music scene, the list includes T-Pain, Snootie Wild, Que from the Migos, Rich Homie Quan and many more…

Young Money Music Group and Lil Wayne will be at the Velvet Room this Sunday. There will also be a host of music festivals coming to Atlanta at this summer including Counter Point 2014!! This summer Hotlanta will he rocking and raving all night long!

New Gucci Mane – Texas Margarita ft. Young Dolph & Dr. Phil

New Gucci Mane - Texas Margarita ft. Young Dolph & Dr. Phil

Gucci Mane dropped a new track yesterday (March 25th) titled “Texas Margarita.” Produced by London on Da Track the single is more “Gucci” type music, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. [credits: allhiphop.com for the story]

The chorus could have been a bit more inventive (guess what the lyrics to it are!), but regardless this track will definitely be “boomin'” and “bunkin'” for most folks especially when/if it gets airplay. Gucci’s last official mixtape was the “Trap Back 2” and his last studio album was “The State Vs. Radric Davis 2: The Caged Bird Sings.” In between those releases he has released several unofficial mixtapes which can be found at sites like Datpiff and LiveMixtapes.

New DJ Mix LUMINUS – “In the Mixx Vol. 2” March 2014. FREE DL!!

New DJ Mix: “In the Mixx Vol. 2” March 2014. FREE DL!!

For those that are so inclined, I released a new mix under my alter-ego, LUMINUS, for the upcoming Spring season in March. This is the second volume of my “In the Mixx” series and is available on Soundcloud and through a link after the post.

This blend of hip-hop/rap music and electronic dance music features hits such as Young Thug’s “Danny Glover” [REMIX], the blog-topping, chart-climbing “Partition (Dave Aude Remix)” and a slick remix to Tinashe’s “2 On feat. Schoolboy Q” single by Wax Motif.

Also featured are songs from fellow DJs I’ve blogged about such as FLCNS (FALCONS) and DJ Renz (of the APH x Renz duo) and more. Check it out at the link up top or right here:

Partition (Dave Aude Remix)

Partition (Dave Aude Remix)

Dave Aude’s remix to Beyonce’s “Partition” blew up charts at Hypem.com or Hype Machine, a website which tracks popular songs. The remix climbed to the No. 2 spot on the Remixes Only Chart shortly after its debut. This edit of the single has all the elements you’d expect in a dance song today, interesting parts but not fully fleshed out. Still, it will get people to the dancefloor.

Sleeping Dogs OST gems — “Professional Loving – Emika” on Ninja Tune Radio

Shoutout to the Sleeping Dogs video game soundtrack which showed me some of what Ninja Tune (the record label) has been up to with its own dedicated radio station within the game.

The equivalent of an Asian Grand Theft Auto IV (with a little to be desired in the driving department) Sleeping Dogs was originally released in late 2012, but was given away in January 2014 on Xbox Live’s servers for Gold Members as part of their “Free Games” promotions.

The game is pretty fun, playing as undercover Hong Kong PD cop, Wei Shen, but what surprised me even more was the soundtrack for the game (which only plays while driving usually), for a game released in late 2012 Square Enix chose several songs that were WAAAY before their time (I wish I’d played this game sooner, I wanted to too when it first came out!)

The Electronic radio station “Ninja Tune Radio” features artists such as Emika, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Bonobo, Plaid, Flying Lotus, Two Fingers and Stateless. I am still analyzing the Hong Kong Hip-Hop/Electronic station (HKLUB) which features many local Hong Kong rap groups and DJs.

Either way big ups to Square Enix for their soundtrack choice in the game, which really surprised me to be honest. Their audio department gets a cookie, most def.

Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon

Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon

KiD CuDi released Satellite Flight: Journey to Mother Moon with few hours notice on Twitter and exclusively on iTunes.

The album features many of the dark, space-like overtones and sounds Cudi is known for.

Following the Beyoncé marketing/distribution model Cudi released the album two months early, without any promotion and mainly just by informing his followers on Twitter the album was now available.

Standouts include the rock-influenced, WZRD reminiscent “Going to the Ceremony,” and the more spacey, deep tuneage of “Destination: Mother Moon”, “Satellite Flight,” and “In My Dreams 2015.”

“Copernicus Landing” also channels this spirit and the more beat-influenced ride through intergalactic soundscapes of “Too Bad I Have To Destroy You Know,” is what we have come to expect from the Moon Man.

The album is a good listen all the way through and reminds one of his last album Indicud with elements of the Man on the Moon albums and his WZRD project.

If this album release is successful, we are bound to see more artists “suddenly” releasing albums and more no-marketing, direct-to-fan approaches, which for Beyoncé worked incredibly well. Not good news for promotional agents, but great news for music artists and their fans alike.
