[Mellow Hip-Hop Beats:] KA-YU – Flowers

Next up is a very interesting instrumental track coming from beat producer KA-YU, “Flowers” is a calming joyride through hip-hop, latin flavored tropical beats and sounds. The result is a very chill track great for meditating or getting work done or to simply drift off into for some moments.

[Sophisticated Beats:] J-Mac – Morning Sunshine

Producer J-Mac’s most recent track “Morning Sunshine” continues the chilled out vibe over smooth beats and vocals from our first post. Perfect for relaxing with a book in the sunlight, a picnic at a local park, or as the soundtrack to a posh art gallery, “Morning Sunshine” is calming, uplifting, jazzy and just downright sophisticated.

Dutch producers Ka-Yu & J-Mac’s sounds’ are very reminiscent of Nujabes, D’jango (some have said in comments), a little Dilla, or really any other insanely good beat producers. Take some time to mellow out to this beat and check out more from KA-YU and J-Mac below. Both artists hail from the Art in Melodies Collective group of DJs and producers.

[EDM Origins/Throwbacks] (Ambient EDM / Deep House) Gui Boratto – No Turning Back // [Future Chill House] Cyril Hahn – Last (feat. John Ford)

We’re highlighting two epic ambient/chill house tracks from two great artists in the house music scene, Gui Boratto and Cyril Hahn/

EDM Origins: Chill EDM
We’re highlighting two great downtempo cuts that truly exemplify the ambient chill electronic scene. Seen as the opposite spectrum of  high energy, bass heavy trap anthems, ambient and deep house genres tend to reflect and invoke softer, more calming images. Ones of tiny rooftop dance floors near the beach in coastal towns. A recovery set, or maybe the whole set at an Ibiza lounge or anywhere EDM “old-heads” frequent. I hope you enjoy and are able to mellow out for a few momentsto these two great songs.

When I look into your eyes…

[Deep House / Ambient Chill EDM]

Gui Boratto’s “No Turning Back”

Take a chance in those wonderful words you just don’t understand.
I can show you the way,
but I know that you’ll never be there.

It’s rare that when a song starts up on my 8000+ iPod library that it gives me goosesbumps (I[m in the long process of putting all said songs into a playlist when I re-stumble across them) but that is exactly what happens when I listen to Swiss DJ Cyril Hahn’s “Last” featuring John Ford.

Channeling elements of deep house waves, retro future vocals and dreamy soundscapes “Last” is probably one of the greatest songs I have heard in several years for this genre of EDM. I have previously blogged about this song which you can read about here:

Brazilian DJ Gui Boratto is a well known name in the house music circuit. With music featured in movies and video games alike; his many remixes and original songs share an authentic quality of atmospheric deep layer of sound. These are elements of EDM that characterized the house and trance music scene throughout the early 2000s to the early 2010s.

Though a bit different sonically in nature, Genre themed podcasts and radio series like Armin Van Buuren’s “A State of Trance” capitalize on this brand of dance music. One that goes beyond hip snares and samples of current rappers over bass heavy beats, but to European EDM at its finest (and of the similar songs produced out of America and elsewhere). Enjoy the classic “No Turning Back”

[Top 40 Hits Remix] [Post Dubstep/Trap] Twenty One Pilots – Stressed Out [BlurryFace] (Andrew Lundeen Remix)

Twenty One Pilots – Stressed Out (Andrew Lundeen Remix)

I was told when I get older, all my fears would shrink but now I’m insecure, and I care what people think

My name’s ‘Blurryface’ and I care what you think

Check out this sonically sweet trap remix of billboard topping, iTunes/musical.ly/Vine #1 smash alternative rap track”Stressed Out” by Twenty One Pilots. Remixed by Andrew Lundeen, the new take on the popular song smoothly melds elements of trap dubstep (that catchy snare), alternative rap and future electronic sounds to create an awesomely chill, mellow trap banger.

The original song, released in April 2015 from Twenty One Pilots album, Blurryface has picked up a lot of popularity lately with its frequent use in viral and meme videos shared over social media. In the original song the lead singer raps and sings, lamentably, about his nostalgia for childhood pastimes (‘Blurryface’ is reportedly, the manifestation of the singer’s dark, negative and anxious side).

[EDM Origins: Trance House] [Throwbacks] // [Hard Trance / House] Future Breeze – Second Chance // [Ambient Trance/House] Michelle Williams – We Break the Dawn (Karmatronic Remix)

This EDM Origins post focuses on some of the early trance and progressive house sounds responsible for today’s EDM with a sick remix of Michelle Williams by Karmatronic

[Hard House/Anthem Trance]
Future Breeze – Second Life (Club Mix)

For Our EDM Origins of today we have two very influential and treasured songs from my music library. Both released during the forefront of EDM’s emergence into American culture during the ripe year of 2008. Our first selection “Second Life (Club Mix” by Future Breeze is a highly slept on, heavy bass-synth trance track I happened to stumble across on iTunes one day.

[Spoiler:] For the young and restless skip ahead to the 3:01 mark for the epic drop. The song continually builds over futuristic synths that were likely foundations for the Future House and Synth House we have today. After a nice little intro the music cuts. Slowly but surely a tiny synth chord begins, growing louder, until the epic drop that rides out for the rest of song. Trance lovers will not be disappointed.

[Ambient Trance/House]
Michelle Williams – We Break the Dawn (Karmatronic Video Remix)

Next up, how can we forget Karmatronic’s magnificent remix of Michelle Williams “We Break the Dawn”. Turning the song into a groovy, downtempo and danceable house track. This remix stands out to me today the same way it did when I purchased it solely off its 30 sec. preview back in 2008. It’s one of a growing minority of older songs I still keep in 8000+ library. I guess it’s the overall natural feel of the melodies blending into something smooth and harmonic without losing the original’s identity. A welcome change from a time awash with similar “remixes” of pop music and Top-40 hits that populated dance charts throughout the early to mid-2000s.

This remix is a great song for riding, relaxing, getting things done, or just to find your own little groovy moment in it.

Cheers.

[New Fetty Wap:] [Hip-Hop] [ Meme Crazes] Fetty Wap – Jimmy Choo (Slim Thick With Yo Cute Ass)

Fetty Wap’s “Jimmy CHoo” has sparked a new internet meme incorporating the “Slim Thick” line of the song.

[Hip-Hop/Rap] Fetty Wap – Jimmy Choo

Everything designer, it’s designer things
all this f*ckin’ money bring the finer things

Ay, slim thick wit yo cute ass
Ay, I might buy you a new bag

Fetty Wap has been a force to be reckoned with in the music circuit, and his latest single “Jimmy Choo” is no exception. With a simplistic synth/gameboy beat and heavy bassline the song makes for a perfect singing-rap blend, but a potent dance number as well.

So well the song has already inspired numerous Vine and Internet Meme videos, mainly with people dancing to the “slim thick with yo cute ass” line then proceeding to hit em wit da old folks. Check it out in some of the vines below for some laughs and good times and even teachers hitting the new “Slim Thick” dance:

[New DJ Mix] iLLUMiИUS – The Future is Here [Winter ’16 Future Bass, House & Trap Mix]

New DJ mix from iLLUMiИUS “The Future is Here (Future Sounds Vol. 1” combined Future Trap, House and Bass

  3. [Trap House] Dynamik – Selection from Dope Hou$e 000 (Wrist [Remix] – iLoveMakonnen)

  8. [Future House] Dynamik – ??? [Remix feat. Jay-Z, Kelis(?), etc.]
  9. [Future Trap] Dynamik – ??? [Remix feat. Mac Miller]

Just in time for the new year is a new mix I’ve been working on. “The Future is Here” incorporates more of that future-EDM sound that I’ve been covering and explored sonically in my previous mix “The Future is Now.” This 26 minute mix has one thing in common throughout its entirety; bass-booming selections with a steady BPM that rarely lets up and keeps your energy and adrenaline going.

Check the mix out on Soundcloud and be sure if you enjoy it, to like, repost and share with your friends. Enjoy!
