One Night Only – Trivecta feat. Yohamna Solange

Check out this Origins throwback post of a great melodic-dubstep cut, “One Night Only” by dubstep act Trivecta featuring vocalist Yohamna Solange. The track is most definitely more melodious and harmonious for the dubstep genre, danceable, and uses modern slang without coming off as too cheesy (see my previous post about “Twerk (Aero Chord Remix)” by the Diamond Pistols). Both the original and the hard to find but possible (on Soundcloud) NUDr0p Extended Rework are great songs for anyone’s collection.

Start Again – Kaskade feat. Becky Jean Williams

Kaskade’s iconic Dynasty album helped propel him into the forefront as EDM music was coming up around 2008. With soothing vocals, calming guitar chords and brain-melting synths, “Start Again” is just one of many songs showcasing the musical depth and variety that Kaskade is well-known for. Dynasty was probably one of Kaskade’s last albums of the ’00s-’10s that had a very strong progressive house focus (Fire & Ice had a more dance-pop, dance-house feel; Dynasty seemed very trance-influenced).

Just listen to another signature track from the album, “Human Reactor” featuring Polina, which features a heavy progressive electronic/house vibe over entrancing and uplifting vocals melding seamlessly with rising synth arpeggios.

Today’s EDM Origins highlights songs from none-other-than, the ambassador of American house-music, Kaskade.


[Progressive Trance-House:] Kaskade feat. Becky Jean Williams – Start Again


The EDM Origins post for today focuses on house music, particularly the mish-mash of progressive house, vocal trance and dance music typical of super-producer Kaskade. In “Start Again,” enchanting and uplifting female vocals commence the ride and journey into tech-house beats melded with trance-like melodies. It’s hard to pinpoint any one stand-out track from Dynasty. Most of the album has this signature sound of Kaskade’s. More epic even, are the remixes of EP’s popular tracks and, as is common practice in EDM, the whole album (see Kaskade’s Fire & Ice (Double EP Album), other self-remixers include Diplo and DJ Tiesto to name a few)

“Raining” is EDM producers, Kaskade and Adam Sun‘s dance-house masterpiece, filled with intoxicating vocals, bass heavy synths and a quite dance-able rhythm. The “dance.love edit” is featured on Kaskade’s remix compilation album, dance.love, alongside a host of other amazing remixes of Kaskade’s songs and other artists such as Alex Gaudino, Samantha James and Adrian Lux (see below:)

EDM Origins’ post today will feature the Swedish electronic producer and DJ, Marcus Schössow and two epic EDM tracks of his, the entrancing “Mr. White” and his epic ambient Nu Progressive remix of John O’Callaghan’s “Take It Away” Both tracks exemplify the core values and foundations of EDM. “Mr. White” and it’s many remixes make successful blends of the original’s use of “female robot” vocals (a la Knife Party), the rhythmic toy or video game synth chords (a la Eric Prydz) and that infectious backbeat present in all today’s club bangers, the 2007 single was way ahead of its time. Two of the better cuts of the song are the “Original mix” and the version of the song that was mixed and included in Trance: The Ultimate Collection 2007.

“Take It Away” is a much more trance-house inspired tune, but just as epic and golden in the world of ambient music. Starting out as expected for a vocal trance tune, the song quickly sheds its cookie-cutter frame as layers of deep house sounds envelop the listener and heavenly, soothing vocals reminiscent of 4 Strings or Tiesto begin. As if this wasn’t good enough already, the song halfway through showcases haunting vocal effects during an a capella, and shortly after drops the unforgettable, addictive melody that caresses the aural senses until the end of the song.

Both tracks are worth checking out, simply for how good they are on their own but also as exemplary cuts embodying the core values of electronic dance music.

Welcome to another EDM Origins post, this time featuring “Neon Sky Rain” one of the standout tracks from independent artist Vector Lovers, an alias for British EDM producer, Martin Wheeler. The song incorporates a very spacey-vibe with futurstic, space-like synths and chords, reminiscent of distant solar systems. The track, released back in 2003, was so far ahead of its time, it isn’t even funny. EDM artists today could take a page from songs and artists like these, who clearly came from a background, foundation and genuine love for electronic music they create. Not like many of these “iMac DJs” or “DJs” who just learned what “Darude – Sandstorm”, or “specialize” in Trap or another fad genre. [EDM Origins / Feature: MAJOR LAZER] Snoop Lion & Major Lazer – No Guns Allowed (ft. Cori B. & Drake) [Shelco Garcia, Teenwolf x Diplo RMX] // Video for Major Lazer’s “Lean On”


Today we’re featuring two great songs from the iconic EDM duo that is Major Lazer (currently Diplo and DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire). The first is a throwback remix of one of Lazer’s top sleeper hits, “No Guns Allowed” originally by Snoop Lion (Snoop Dogg). Featuring Snoop’s daughter Cori B. (Cori Broadus) and Drake, this remix turns the song into a dancefloor filler with a positive vibe and message with a feel of the islands and reggae music. Many have hailed the original song and it’s video as a positive message to youth and society on the harms and dangers of gunplay and firearm possession. Take a listen above and see what you think.

Next, Major Lazer‘s smash-hit single of the summer, Lean On gets a music video. Now while it is a rare find that a music video will come out and just BE EVERYTHING a fan, or the artist wanted to show/convey, the video for Lean On lands somewhere in-between “this is what I would’ve expected” and “okay, that’s cool”

Namely, I sort of expected an Indian/Desi/Bollywood/Slumdog Millionaire kind of tilt as the song undeniably has an Asian or “foreign” feel to it. Its depiction in the video comes across as both expected and unusual. This expectedness is simple, but apparent. When my mind is starting to meld into the video and take in the sights of Indian culture, I am quickly reminded I am watching an EDM music video each time I see MO singing or Diplo trying to dance. Don’t get me wrong they are both very talented but their presence in the video just feels a bit…out of place.

Nevertheless, I expected a bit more in the way of Indian dance routines, but I do like where they went with the video. You can tell everyone on the set had fun and that they probably had a chill time making it. Check it out above and let us know what you think!

This EDM Origins post is on the electronic, dance song “Raindrops” by Stunt, one of my personal favorites in my adolescent years. “Raindrops” channels the energetic dance music and rave scene rampant in Europe and the fledgling soon-to-be-movement in the United States. This came at a time where a few years prior and around the 2000s, it was not uncommon for American electronic producers and artists to release their music on European labels and markets due to the fact the demand was just not there in America. My, how far we’ve come. Take a listen to this pumped up club track and reminisce of those golden years with me!

Next up, from the moon man, Kid Cudi, himself is electro-inspired masterpiece, “Ride 4 U”. With back-up support from the top-notch “real hip-hop” rapper Chip Tha Ripper and the eclectic California-based electronic/rap band, Far East Movement. The beat is simply crack, produced by none other than one of Cudi’s right hand producers, Dot Da Genius.
