Notable Listens

This essentials runs the gamut from some of the most well-known artists to some very under-rated gems. Check out several breakdowns below and let me know in the comments what gets you through the week!

Bishu – “Hurt Me Too (feat. McCall)”

Opening with Bishu’s “Hurt Me Too” this excellent Monstercat label release is the perfect blend of melodic drum ‘n bass.

Apparently its creation may have been for a challenge for Bishu, whom comments on his videos vouch is very funny, under-rated and worth following. I got a chuckle out of a quick video I pulled up and the guy seems very light-hearted and easy going. Check him out and decide for yourself. If he makes music like this for fun or a challenge, I’d agree.

Ghastly – “Every Night”

Ghastly never ceases to amaze me. His sheer variety of styles are always refreshing, and “Every Night” is no exception. This quite intriguing blend of bass, house and lounge music is available copyright free from the Dim Mak label.

Internet Money – “Blast Off (feat. Juice Wrld & Trippie Redd)

What more is there to say. It’s Trippie Redd and the late great Juice Wrld.

Droeloe – “Collisions”

I haven’t heard much from Droeloe that I don’t like. I’ll admit I only recently discovered them but their music not only challenges my brain in thinking what exactly, EDM “is”, but I often forget “what exactly was I doing” as I get lost in many of their tracks. Droeloe collabs are also very fire.

Smiley – Over the Top (feat. Drake)

A Different Way and its remixes, DJ Snake, Lauv

Originally from an exclusive DJ Snake livestream this timeless bop with incredible vocals from Lauv has gotten some solid remix treatment and a future house remake from Nalestar.

Another take on the classic.

Seb Wiggins – Waiting for the Answer

“Waiting for the Answer” has got some excellent vocals and marvelous progression from it’s very light intro evolving into a more progressive house vibe.

Hotboii & Future – “Nobody Special”

Still bangs, no doubt.

DJ Snake – “Middle”

Another one for times when you need something a bit more downtempo, “The Middle” from DJ Snake’s 2016 album “Encore” is perfect for sunset viewing, life reminiscing, and pool lounging.

Without listening to the whole album it’s easy to assume gems like this weren’t among far more mainstream tracks like “Ocho Cinco.” They do say don’t judge a book by its cover.

Jake Robertz – Time (Protostar Remix) [ft. Teasha Huns]

Talk about some melodic drum ‘n bass, you know I’m here for it. Protostar’s remix of Jake Robertz “Time” with vocals from Teasha Huns has been on repeat all week.

The buildup between drops is just too great with Huns lush vocals, “I just wanna spend my time with you / I’m feelin’ everything you do” before I’m head bobbing, almost banging to the pure DnB drop.

Animadrop – Nobody Like Me

I have to be thankful to Youtube Music for actually showing me Animadrop. He clearly puts a ton of thought into his work and the interplay between levels, fields of sound within his songs.

He also often makes “making of” videos great for producers. “Nobody Like Me” feels wonderful to ride in the whip with, bass blaring as you declare “ain’t nobody like me.”

Phlegmatic Dogs – High Volume

THIS should be played at high volume…preferably. Hey, he said it not me.

[Throwback:] [Calming House/Funk:] Kaytranada – Bullets (feat. Little Dragon), upcoming releases & Favorites

Our throwback explores Canadian-Haitian DJ, Kaytranda’s soulful tracks and his upcoming music!

[Ambient/Future House:] Bullets (feat. Little Dragon) – Kaytranada

https://player.vimeo.com/api/player.js%5D

Today’s throwback post focuses on Canadian DJ, Kaytranada, whose infectious sound causes listeners to take notice the moment they hear one of his songs. I’d first heard of him around the time I initially began to listen to and research Future House music several years ago. Kaytranada’s music could be called Future Lounge. It’s never really high energy or insane, and it works extremely well. He makes music you’d listen to at the beach, sailing over the ocean blue, or lounging on a tropical island.

Apparently, he’s dropping new music as well with the likes of Ty Dolla $ign and will have three new tracks by Friday. Check out some of Kaytranada’s hits below and social media info.

[Hip-Hop/Rap] Gucci Mane – Both (feat. Drake) // [Hip-Hop/Rap] Migos – T-Shirt

Just in time for the new year comes new fuego from Gucci Mane, Drake and the Migos!!

Hello all, and Happy New Year. I hope everyone has had a wonderful 2017 thus far and wish you all a wonderful year ahead.

[Hip-Hop/Rap] Gucci Mane – Both (feat. Drake) from Gucci Mane’s Return of the East Atlanta Santa

I don’t usually do this, ‘less I’m drunk or I’m high
But I’m both right now, got me talkin’ bout my life
[…] I don’t usually do this, ‘less I’m drunk or I’m high
but I’m both right now and I need you in my life

With GuWop out of prison it seems he is simply everywhere these days. Gucci Mane has been dropping music like crazy and making appearances everywhere from VICE to NY’s Power 105.1 FM. Straight from his latest mixtape East Atlanta Santa Gucci Mane is bringing straight heat with his single “Both” featuring Drake.

Starting off the track with some signature Gucci grammar-ful lyrics “I got so many felonies/I might can’t never go to Canada” you can feel the makings of a top Gucci track with lasting appeal, even before you hear “If Young Metro don’t trust you, I’m gon’ shoot yo.”

The song largely speaks for itself so I will let it do just that, rather than describe it. Young Metro’s ice-cold beat is perfect for 2017 and Drake absolutely destroys the hook making the song irresistibly catchy. The only downside is at 3 minutes and 10 seconds, the song is far too short.

[Hip-Hop/Rap] Migos – T-Shirt

Last year proved to be quite an unstoppable year for the Migos. Contrary to the general consensus that 2016 wasn’t the best of years, the Migos only rose in popularity, dropped a plethora of new music as they prepare to drop a new album. Perhaps one of the most iconic rap songs of 2016 “Bad & Boujee” has been off the charts across America and the world.

“T-Shirt” continues the traditional Migos flow with an interesting video that pits the group in the middle of the arctic wilderness with several eye-catchingly beautiful women.

[R&B EDM Remixes] Mario Winans – I Don’t Wanna Know (Zoo#Clique Edit) // Destiny’s Child – Say My Name (Synthetic Epiphany Remix)

Check out these two exceptional remixes of these iconic R&B singers: Destiny’s Child & Mario Winans

[R&B EDM Remixes] [Deep House/R&B]
Mario Winans – I Don’t Wanna Know (Zoo#Clique Edit)

Today, we’ve got two great EDM remixes of two very classic R&B tunes that are a throwback to early ’00s rhythm and blues music.

First up, a chill down-tempo, but still massive remix of Mario Winans “I Don’t Wanna Know” coming to us from CDeep Music’s Youtube Channel. The Zoo#Clique Remix expounds on the original adding layers of atmospheric deep ambient house, clublike basslines and rhythms and slowed vocals. This remix certainly does the original justice retaining most of the elements from the original, save for the stupidly sick sample of The Fugees “Ready or Not,” but that’s forgivable. Nevertheless, don’t miss out on this awesome track and summer 2016 ambient-chill banger! Download it for free!

[Ambient Future R&B]
Destiny’s Child – Say My Name (Synthetic Epiphany Remix)

Next, from the legendary R&B trio Destiny’s Child comes an epic remix of one of their most well known and popular single’s “Say My Name.” Destiny’s Child and its individual members are no strangers to remixes (especially of the electronic variety; check out a few under this post). The Synthetic Epiphany Remix re-imagines the R&B bopping anthem as a chill house club single that’ll round off nights with its building layers of ambiance, future sounds and throwback nostalgia.

Other notable Destiny’s Child Electronic Remixes:

[Progressive House]
Michelle Williams – We Break the Dawn (Karmatronic Remix)

[Dance House]
Beyonce – Greenlight (Freemasons Remix)

[FUTURE AMBIENT CHILL / LOUNGE:]
Last (feat. Joel Ford) – Cyril Hahn

Check out this refreshingly chilled-out single from electronic artist Cyril Hahn “Last” featuring Joel Ford. Soft-house chords and melty-echoing vocals cascade into a funky backbeat and groovy lounge rhythm. The simple, repeating vocals add to the ambient chill vibe creating soundscapes of night-beaches, late night Ibiza chill-room sessions or put simply, a “just drift-away zone.”

[Future Dancehall] Too Original (feat. Elliphant & Rockwell) [Official Version] Lyric Video – Major Lazer

Anybody wanna dance with meh?
Sippin’ on my rum in the corner still, ah

We a groove to di morning break.
Na, we go banana ina suga shake…

Bring the base up, make a blasta block!

Major Lazer’s lastest album Peace is the Mission has generated a lot of buzz in the music world, especially concerning EDM. With the chart topping single featuring Ariana Grande, “All My Love” dominating US (and worldwide) airwaves it’s only right to do a feature on another quite popular, more eclectic single from the album “Too Original.”

[Future Wave / Ambient R&B:] Trey Songz – Slow Motion (Airia Remix)

[Future Ambient] Trey Songz – Slow Motion (Airia Remix)

Our Chill selection for the day would stop at the stations on the intersection of Future Chill and Ambient Euphoric, if it were a train en route to Ear-gasm Town. Airia’s spacey, mellowed out flip of Trey Songz’ crossover R&B smash-hit “Slow Motion” is a great addition to anyone’s catalog. A perfectly agreeable mélange of soft pianos, synths and melodies put an even more refreshing aural ambience compared to the original. This remix will fit right at home for fans of chill and ambient tunes or just good music in general. Happy trails friends! Cop yourself this chill-out banger by following the links below:
