Next up is an amazingly chill re-work of popular rap/trap hit “Bandz A Make Her Dance” originally by Juicy J. For this incredibly chill remix we highlight EDM artists KDS who has turned the trap banger anthem into a relaxed afternoon, bass-heavy future wave single. Chill is an understatement here and the use and variety of samples used is refreshing. Don’t sleep on this! Thumbs up all around here!!

[iLLUMiИUS Mixes] [House Blend & Hip-Hop Mix] iLLUMiИUS – Deeper Cuts (indie blend) // iLLUMiИUS ride out (2 this ATL)

Hope everyone is having a great week and a good Tuesday, regardless of whether you were at a club that was going up or not (couldn’t help myself). With the coming of Spring I have had a little bit more time to work on new mixes and original choreography. More people are out and about, and as the end of the semester approaches a well deserved break is around the bend as we transition into summer. In Atlanta, the fair weather already has the city more turnt than usual; I was recently enlisted to DJ at a small gathering downtown which was quite a fun, insightful experience (see video down below or click:).

[NEW Mix:] Deeper Cuts ’15 Vol. 2

IG Footage: Dropping Bouncin’ by DJ Bake & C4 at an ATL party/kickback. Jersey House in the building!

I’ve got two brand new mixes for you today released just in time for Spring as more of you are looking to turn up, travel or just enjoy good music. The first of my new mixes is an indie house blend, consisting of some eclectic and harder to find songs from the house and overall EDM genre, titled “Deeper Cuts.” Artists featured include: Thunderheist, Röyksopp, LCD SoundsystemFedde Le Grande, Nicky Romero featuring Matthew Koma and more…

Give it a listen (intended for long play, it’s about 30 min) or skim through and check it out where I hope you’ll find something you enjoy and can get down to. Check it out below, whether you want to sit back and chill through the course of the mix, or skim through and see if you find any new interesting songs, give it a listen. Be sure to comment as well, I will read them and like to see them no matter what they say.

My second mix I released about a week or two ago on Soundcloud, titled “ride out (2 This ATL)” is a mix of hip-hop and rap songs that you can ride out to. Several prominent rappers are featured, as well as a wide range of hip-hop and rap songs with a few trap tracks thrown in for good measure. This mix features artists such as: Gucci Mane, Chief Keef, Big Sean, Travi$ ScottCam’RonDej LoafKid InkRed Cafe, Juicy J and more…

Check it out above:

(noteBoth mixes are still rough cuts with further editing and changes pending.)

[EDM Origins: House / Disco House:] (2004) Junior Jack – Da Hype & Stupidisco (Dare Me)

The progressive house throwbacks “Da Hype” and “Stupidisco (Dare Me)” from Italian house DJ, Junior Jack, withstand the test of time and are shining examples that foreshadow EDM’s launch into mainstream America. The building progressive rhythm of both songs are characteristic of house at its core and capture the spirit of many “early” EDM songs.

Electronic and dance music released in the early to mid-2000s catalyzed the evolution of the genre and certainly were ancestors of the soon-to-be popularized “dubstep.” Released back in 2004, “Da Hype” is forever a favorite of mine; it was part of the first real collection of EDM and house music I had acquired…back then would’ve been about 9th grade. Several years after I was introduced to the genre (when I was 10 or 11) but about two years since I’d really gotten into the scene (mainly from video games soundtracks w/EDM: Need For Speed Underground, SSX 3 come to mind).

I am forever grateful for my exposure to artists such as Junkie XL, LCD Soundsystem, BT, Deep Dish, DJ Tiësto, Röyksopp and many more that solidified my interest in EDM. Artists like these were pioneers of the genre and helped drive it to what we know today. We musn’t forget however, that quality is always over quantity. The ubiquity of electronic music today is refreshingly satisfying, but we should all take note of the sheer originality and creativity expressed during those years and even earlier before.

[Throwback Trap/EDM/Freestyle Rap:] TNGHT – Higher Ground (Khadafi Dub Freestyle) // [EDM Origins: Trance] Narcotic Thrust – When the Dawn Breaks (Radio Edit)

Today’s throwback is on West Coast rapper Khadafi Dub and his quite good freestyle over TNGHT’s “Higher Ground.” The original tune featured has been a big hit ever since TNGHT, the collaboration of EDM artists Hudson Mohawke and Lunice dropped it in 2012.

Khadafi Dub may not have the best lyrical skills in the game, but he has worked hard at his craft and worked even harder at finding unique, interesting beats to rap over; many EDM tracks as well as house and dubstep, and he was one of the first rappers to do it. Check out his freestyle above and support Khadafi Dub and TNGHT below:

Our second track is another throwback, this one I discovered during my high school days. Released in 2005, “When The Dawn Breaks” by Narcotic Thrust was one of the first progressive house tunes I ever got into. The original and the Cicada remix do not disappoint! Smooth vocals layered over calming house synth sounds compose this little-known trance sleeper gem.

[Trap/Funk/House] NGHTMRE & SLANDER – Gud Vibrations // [EPIC House/Ambient & Smooth Chill Trap] Faded [Remixes]

The very funk inspired “Gud Vibrations” is quite a nice blend of trap and house sounds coming from the collaborative mind of EDM producers, NGHTMRE & Slander.

Next we have two incredible remixes of EDM artist Zhu’s “Faded.” The first comes from the remarkably talented EDM producer Enda who certainly injects a heavenly atmospheric vibe into the original. The result is an instantly chilling, instantly soothing ambient track to chill and vibe out to.

Another rising name in the EDM scene, Lido, also remixed “Faded” with a much more trappy, but still chill feel. This comparably slower version fits more in lounge type scenarios then in a dancehall or club but is still very moving. Check out both remixes and more from their artists above in the links. I have also reviewed Enda’s “It’s Alright” which can be found here:

[2 New Future House Trax] Tchami – After Life // Enda – It’s Alright

French DJ and super-producer, Tchami’s new track After Life from his upcoming release, the After Life – EP does not disappoint. A “Future-House” banger, this track is sure to get people moving with it’s very bassline house vibes and rhythm. Tchami has been nothing short of unstoppable since his remix of Janet Jackson’s Go DeepHe has also remixed rising electronic-R&B duo, AlunaGeorge’s You Know You Like It and has been featured on Diplo’s BBC Radio One DJ show, getting his own 1-hour house mix segment.

Below is another smash house hit from Tchami under Fools Gold Records, “Promesses:”

Next up, we have future house track from EDM DJ and producer, Enda with his smooth, original track It’s Alright. With a very calming and relaxing vibe this house track would fit right in in any house club, big room playlist or ambient chill zone wherever one may be found.
